Tess Riabokin, LCSW

Tess Riabokin relationship therapist

I am a psychodynamically trained therapist and clinical social-worker. I specialize in working with adults from diverse backgrounds who are working on their relationships with themselves, family or romantic partner(s). My approach incorporates experiential and relational therapies that are attachment-based and trauma-informed.

This unique approach allows me to play an active role helping the client to feel their emotions and identify barriers to healing and growth. This collaborative process can yield a worthwhile and hopeful experience.

Challenges in relationship can bring about a variety of experiences from joy and pleasure to anxiety and fear and confinement. In order to move through these feelings we may have to examine our coping strategies and ways we respond so that we can have the relationships we want and need.

I will support you in deepening your understanding of your challenges and together we can work to get to the heart of the issue(s).

I also have a focus in working with adult children of parents with NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) and BPD (Borderline personality disorder) traits. Often the tools we developed to survive this type of childhood no longer serve us as adults and need updating.

Together we can examine how these patterns from your childhood or past are still in operation today and are influencing the way you relate to yourself and others.

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

~ Viktor E. Frankl

Therapy is not a one size fits all experience. Together we can work to create a personalized approach in service of you and your goals. I will help you deepen your understanding of the challenges you experience in your life and develop more effective ways to respond to them.

During this process we will examine how you engage with your feelings so that you can stop thinking about them and actually change the way you interact with these parts of yourself.

I use a several effective and dynamic forms of empirically-supported psychotherapy. Through a collaborative process, you will learn tools and strategies to help you expand your capacity for well being.
